POLICY

Last updated: October 8, 2026

Unless otherwise indicated, original text, data, images, and other materials created and published by the Brain Architecture Project (BAP) are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

You may share and adapt covered material for any purpose, provided that you give appropriate credit to BAP and the identified creators, link to the license, indicate whether changes were made, and distribute adaptations under the same license. Attribution should also include the relevant dataset citation listed below whenever one is provided.

This license does not apply to third-party material, publication content, institutional names, trademarks, or logos unless they are expressly identified as CC BY-SA 4.0 material. Those items may require separate permission. A dataset-specific license or notice takes precedence for that dataset. Use of BAP material does not imply endorsement by BAP, MitraLab, or Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

TERMS OF USE

Last updated: October 8, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of brainarchitecture.org and the Brain Architecture Project’s related data, viewers, tools, and services (collectively, the “Services”). By using any of the Services, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.

Associated websites and services

The Services include the main Brain Architecture Project website and the related resources linked from it, including:

This list describes the principal associated services currently linked by the project and is not exhaustive. A service-specific notice or policy takes precedence where it states different terms.

Research and informational use

The Services support research and education. Their content is not medical advice and is not intended for diagnosis, treatment, or clinical decision-making. You are responsible for evaluating whether data and results are suitable for your intended use.

Acceptable use

You may access, download, and reuse material as permitted by the applicable license and citation requirements. You may not interfere with the Services, bypass access controls, introduce malicious code, use automated requests in a way that disrupts service, misrepresent the source of material, or use the Services unlawfully. If you create or use an account, you are responsible for its security and for activity under that account.

Data, availability, and changes

We work to keep the Services useful and accurate, but datasets may be incomplete, provisional, corrected, or withdrawn. The Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue content or features when reasonably necessary.

Third-party services and links

The Services may link to or integrate services operated by others, including GitHub Pages and other external hosting platforms. BAP does not control and is not responsible for third-party content, availability, security, or privacy practices. Your use of those services may also be governed by their own terms and policies.

Intellectual property

Service content is governed by the license or rights notice displayed with it and by the License and Citation Policy above. No rights in BAP, MitraLab, or Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory names, logos, or trademarks are granted except with written permission.

Limitation of responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, BAP and its participating institutions are not liable for losses arising from use of, inability to use, or reliance on the Services or their data. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so these limitations may not apply in full to you.

Changes and governing law

We may revise these terms by posting an updated version and date on this page. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: October 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Brain Architecture Project (BAP) handles information when you use brainarchitecture.org or associated project websites, data portals, viewers, tools, and applications linked from it (collectively, the “Services”). These include brainviewer.org, the primary 2D viewer; data.brainarchitecture.org and its species collections; the Marmoset–Mouse Comparison tool; the Marmoset and Addiction Brain Architecture portals; braincircuits.info; marmosetconnects.org; mouse cell-density and Zebra Finch resources; and project applications hosted on GitHub Pages or other third-party platforms. It also applies when you contact us or create an account through the Services.

Information we collect

We may collect information you provide, such as your name, email address, account information, messages, and support requests. Our systems may also receive technical information such as IP address, browser and device type, referring pages, pages viewed, timestamps, cookies, and similar usage data.
